DR. PEPPER DIET BERRIES & CREAM
Reviewed by Cartoonist Jeff Swenson
The classic Dr. Pepper taste with some kiddie kool-aid taste.

COMPANY: Dr. Pepper Company
BOTTLE DESIGN:
Kind of blah. Classic design that takes no chances. I assume they don't want to scare away the older folk from buying it and younger kids may not buy diet anyhow. It even says on the bottle "Soda Fountain Classic" so that's the pitch: nostalgia except it's diet.
BOTTLE DETAILS: 20 FL OZ, Calories 0
PRICE: 1.49 at Safeway
WEBSITE: DrPepper.com Their site is fairly dynamic but nothing really worth visiting for. Some information and downloadable wallpaper.
TASTE: It certainly tastes like Dr. Pepper but then there's a kool-aid candy taste to the mix that is okay but might be a little too artificial tasting for me. It does contain aspartame, however it didn't seem too strong. I can't say I didn't like it, but I think I would have preferred an original Dr. Pepper.
AFTERTASTE: Nothing Distinct
SUSTAINED EFFECTS: I think I lost weight just drinking it.
OVERALL: Since I have no nostalgic feelings towards this drink, which is the marketing goal, I can't say that it is anything special for me. However, for those who might remember when this drink was available as a "fountain classic" they might enjoy it more. Certainly I like trying drinks that have a history but once I'm done with this review I will probably forget about Diet Dr. Pepper Berries and Cream.
WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN? Probably not unless there was very little choice in the selections before me.

GENERAL COMMENTS: Not much to say. It's hard to improve on Dr. Pepper in my opinion because there's nothing to improve on. This is just a twist on an old classic that is supposed to appeal to your fond memories as a kid. I don't have those fond memories. It's hard to relate to the taste on any level except that it seems pointless to have it on the market (but as long as it sells I can't argue with them putting it out).
